Abstract
Background
Piriformis syndrome (PS) is characterized by discomfort, tingling, and numbness down the leg as a result of the piriformis muscle irritating or compressing the sciatic nerve. Physical therapy, pain management, and lifestyle changes are common forms of treatment. Developments in biotechnology provide exciting new avenues for bettering piriformis syndrome diagnosis and treatment. Treatments are becoming more accurate and efficient because to innovations like targeted medication delivery, stem cell therapy, regenerative medicine, and better imaging tools.
Methods
The research is based on bibiliographic sources that were analyzed using PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct and other web sources, published within the period of 2014-2024.
Results
The use of biotechnology in the diagnosis and management of piriformis syndrome (PS) has produced encouraging gains in therapy effectiveness and outcome. High-resolution imaging and biomarker discovery are two examples of advanced diagnostic tools that have made it possible to identify PS more precisely, Early clinical trials have indicated that stem cell treatment may be a good alternative for chronic patients since it has demonstrated promise in repairing piriformis muscle tissue, decreasing spasms, and relieving nerve compression. Also, it has been shown that regenerative medicine employing growth factors and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) might decrease muscle inflammation and encourage repair, hastening recovery.Nanotechnology-powered targeted drug delivery systems have transformed pain management by delivering medications straight to the injured areas.
Conclusions
Summary of Piriformis Syndrome Diagnosis and Therapy: Biotechnology enhancement potentially brings great improvement in both piriformis syndrome diagnosis and therapy. These technologies also provide less intrusive treatment options, better pain relief, and more accurate diagnoses. As research in the field unfolds, biotechnology might become essential to providing personalized and sustainable treatments for piriformis syndrome, thereby ultimately improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
