Abstract
Background
Dissociative disorder is a complex syndrome that includes a variety of factors such as memory, awareness, identity, emotions, body control, and habits. Although the association between symptoms and dissociative disorders with sleep has long been widely studied, how the influence of sleep disturbance on dissociative disorders is still not understood. The aim of this review is to discuss how sleep activity affects dissociative disorders.
Methods
A comprehensive literature search was performed on all studies reporting the effect of sleep disturbance on dissociative disorders in both clinical and non-clinical populations from 2000-2021 published in English. The results of the literature search were tabulated according to the list of dissociative disorders in the DSM-V.
Results
We used a simulation method to generate missing recovery counts, and we applied the B-spline approximation method to get a smooth estimate of the reproduction number.
Conclusions
Sleep disturbance is commonly found in dissociative disorders in both clinical and non-clinical populations but also found in PTSD because it is related with a similar etiology.
