Moi University School of Medicine was established in 1988 as the second medical school in Kenya. It is home to a very talented cohort of students who are as committed to building ties with the international medical community as they are to local outreach. The school provides programs that enable practicing medicine in rural communities and benefits from strong ties with institutes abroad. The local BSI chapter at Moi was initiated through a collaboration with the Medical Student Association of Moi University (MSAMU). MSAMU is a professional, non-profit organization established in 2000 to serve the interests of medical students at Moi University and in anticipation of collaborations with other health institutions both locally and internationally. Members of the organization participate in activities such as health camps, conferences, and workshops meant to empower medical students and encourage connecting with local communities. MSAMU also works in collaboration with other bodies including Medical Students Association of Kenya(MSAKE),Federation of Africa Medical Students Associations(FAMSA) and International Federation of Medical Students Associations( IFMSA). In brief, MSAMU objectives are: a) To promote academic welfare of the members. b) To be a forum for medical students to discuss and /or participate in research on topics related to health education and medicine. c) To promote correspondence with local and international medical schools and any other human health-oriented organizations. d) To participate in community based health projects geared towards promoting their health welfare.
